Monkey King 2 is a Disney adventure comedy film, released in 2016. It was written by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, directed by David Leitch, Sigourney Weaver portrays the Monkey King's mother in this film. The Monkey King is already an accomplished fighter that knows martial arts skills but he wants to learn how to take down the demons that have targeted his family. The movie has received mixed reviews from critics because of its storyline but it has been doing great at the box office because of its abundant action sequences and laughter-inducing moments. The plot of the movie starts with the Monkey King leaving his home to see the world along with his best friends - Pigsy, Sandy, and Wukong. However, before he could do that he needs to get permission from his mom. His mom agrees to let him go on this journey after telling her motherly concerns about him. The Monkey King takes up the challenge to fight against evil forces threatening humanity this time by taking down Er Lang Shen - a demon who has been targeting Wukong's family for generations now. Er Lang Shen is allied with various demons which are working together to wipe out humanity from Earth. The Monkey King takes his best friends along with him as they journey towards their destination. Their first stop is to Nepal as they meet the monk who is the only one capable of restoring his hit points. They hit some bumps on the way as they encounter some demons and their obstacles but luckily, the Monkey King is able to overcome them all. They then move forward towards China and there, the Monkey King meets a girl named Mei Hua Shen - a warrior that has a tragic tale behind her. She joins them on this journey and together, they confront Er Lang Shen's forces once more. The Monkey King fails in defeating Er Lang Shen because of the annoying demons that are constantly trying to stop him from defeating the demon lord. The Monkey King then decides that he must teach himself before he can think of challenging Er Lang Shen again. He learns the skills that are required for him to fight against these evil forces. He also meets up with Mei Hua Shen once more where they practice their combat skills. The couple is able to go all out since they have finally found a common enemy to fight against. After learning all of his new skills, Monkey King sets his next target - demons coming after Mei Hua Shen's family in China. He then asks the monk to allow them to take on this challenge. Mei Hua Shen's family is in danger because of a mysterious group that wants to destroy all the remaining humans on the planet. The Monkey King has successfully helped Mei Hua Shen's family out of their miseries after defeating some demons responsible for their misery. The Monkey King returns on his path of defeating Er Lang Shen, the demon lord who is responsible for many tragedies in his life. He finds out that Er Lang Shen has captured his mother which gives him more drive to defeat the demon lord once and for all.
